Elland Silver Youth Brass Band were crowned champions at the 1st inaugural Rochdale Youth Brass Band Championships on Saturday 24 October at Rochdale Town Hall. Their young star trombone player Charlotte Horsfield was also awarded the Best Soloist award. Rochdale youth band were runners up and Pemberton Youth Brass Band took 3rd place.
This success comes only a week after the band took 2nd place at the Pogson Bray Entertainment Brass Contest held at Berties Banqueting Rooms, Elland, where the band competed against 11 bands from across Yorkshire from youth to 2nd section graded senior bands. The contest was won by the Slaithwaite Band, conducted by Rob Westacott, with Elland Youth taking 2nd place and Knottingley Silver taking 3rd place.
The band is also delighted to receive the news that they have been invited to compete in the Development Section at the European Youth Brass Band Championships in Lille, France in May 2016. Elland are one of two bands selected to represent the UK at the contest, which takes place on Sunday 1 May 2016.

To make the trip possible for the 45 strong band and their chaperone team, the band need to raise some £10,000 to subsidise the travel costs.
