Community Connections Volunteer Befrienders Information Drop-in June 21

Posted on Updated on

Community Connections are holding an information “Drop In” session  at Hamerton Close (sheltered housing), Elland on Wednesday 21 June 1 pm –3 pm for Befriending Volunteers in Calderdale.

We all know what it’s like to feel lonely from time to time, but facts show that around 1 million older people regularly go an entire month without speaking to anyone and their only form of company being the TV.

By visiting someone who feels lonely and out of touch every week can be so beneficial for their well-being and also extremely rewarding for you, the volunteer.

Community Connections follow a safe recruitment process which involves references and DBS check (free), all supported by a Yorkshire Children’s Centre Volunteer Coordinator .

They complete home safety checks and initial assessments with clients and introduce and match you with who you are happy to spend time with.

If you have ever thought of becoming a befriender to an older person for  company and conversation just 1 hour a week, someone local to you,  then please come along or get in touch with Jacqui Smith at jacqui.smith@yccuk.org.uk  or telephone 01484 519988.
