World Suicide Prevention Day #ITSOKAYTOTALK

Posted on

ItsOktotalkConnecting with others and letting people know that #ITSOKAYTOTALK is a key message for this year’s World Suicide Prevention Day on Sunday 10 September.

If you are having suicidal thoughts

  • You’re not alone
  • It’s OK to talk
  • Don’t be afraid to ask for help – from a friend, your family, your GP, the Samaritans on 116123, NHS 111 or by calling 999 if the situation is urgent

If someone expresses suicidal thoughts

  • Be direct and talk openly about suicide
  • Listen and allow the person to talk honestly about their feelings
  • Don’t say things like ‘it’s not so bad’, ‘don’t be stupid’ or ‘think of your family’
  • Be available, show support and let them know that you care
  • Encourage and support them to seek help – from their family, their GP, the Samaritans on 116123, NHS 111 or by calling 999 if the situation is urgent
