Training: Level 1 Award in Mentoring
This qualification allows learners to gain a deeper understanding of the role of a mentor and develop the skills needed to become an effective mentor.
The aims of the qualification are: to help learners gain an insight in to the role and practice of being a mentor, to be clear about mentor/mentee relationships, ensure good practice, develop specific skills and understanding, reflect on own learning and performance, and to understand the benefits of mentoring and the legal and ethical requirements.
Qualification structure:
Level 1 Award –
Unit 01 Role of a mentor
Unit 02 Preparing for the role of a mentor
Unit 03 Demonstrating mentoring skills.
Learners complete workbooks as part of the taught workshops (4 x 3 hour workshops)
The workshops are participatory, they encourage lots of discussion and activities so that you share your understanding and experiences. Workbooks will be provided for you to complete during the sessions which will be useful for the level 1 accreditation. There is no ‘homework’ to do as all the assessment activities are completed as part of the workshops.
All workshop sessions are on Wednesdays, 9:30am-12:30pm at Focus 4 Success, Old Town Hall, Thornton Square, Brighouse, HD6 1EA.
Session 1: 1st May – Induction Unit 01: Role of a mentor – Part 1
Session 2: 8th May – Unit 01: Role of a mentor – Part 2 & Unit 02: Preparing for the role of a mentor – Part 1
Session 3: 15th May – Unit 02: Preparing for the role of a mentor – Part 2
Session 4: 22nd May – Unit 03: Demonstrating mentoring skills
It is recommended that you attend all the sessions as they are a great opportunity for some shared learning and you can complete all the assessment tasks in the session.
The assessment process for the qualification includes a variety of completed activities that will make up your portfolio, these include:
Workbooks – completed as part of the workshops
Group discussions with photographs of flip charts – as part of the workshops
