Have a Crime Free Christmas in Calderdale

Posted on Updated on

West Yorkshire Police, Calderdale council and partners are working together to reduce crime and make people safe. Here are some useful tips to prevent and reduce criminal activity during the festive season.

1. Light up, lock up, be secure
Use a timer switch so lights come on when you’re not in. Lights on help deter burglars.

2. Keep your valuables out of sight
Burglars often look through windows. Keep expensive gadgets, chargers, car keys wallets and purses out of sight.

3. Do not leave packaging by the bins
Dispose fully expensive Christmas presents boxes in your bin, not against it. Don’t advertise it!

4. Be on your guard against bogus callers
Don’t let anyone you do not expect in your house. Always check ID, call the company if unsure, refuse entry. Genuine callers won’t mind.

5. Keep your car safe
Park in well lit spaces, lock the car, don’t leave valuables or Christmas presents in the car.

6. Keep yourself safe
Plan your return home, inform a friend or family member, only use licensed taxis.

7. Don’t drink and drive
If you will drive, stick to soft drinks.

8. Alcohol related behaviour
Officers will be on duty to make sure anti-social behaviour doesn’t ruin the night for others.

9. Internet safety
If shopping online use a secure payment service and never give out personal or financial information unless you know the contact. For advice www.thinkuknow.co.uk.

10. Domestic abuse. How much more can you take?
