Sure Start Children’s Centres were set up to be a one stop shop for services relating to children and families. Your local Children’s Centre is in Elland town centre, on Boxhall Road, next to Elland C of E school.
In normal circumstances, the centre offers a range of health services from antenatal and postnatal care to two year old development checks and smoking cessation clinics.
Antenatal and postnatal care are still operating in a Covid safe way. With the focus being on nurturing our young; activities for babies and toddlers are being offered online and include a range of stimulating activities to support your child’s development.
Often the Children’s Centre offers a bag of resources, free of charge, to enable you to join in the activity at home. A programme of events sometimes offers baby yoga, signing classes and many more creative activities – all free of charge!
There is a ‘drop-in’ service with support on a wide range of issues such as parenting dilemmas, housing and finance issues and other issues that affect the family such as domestic abuse.
Currently this is being offered by phone or online.
Last but not least Elland Children’s Centre also has a nursery which has two rooms; 0-2yrs and 2-5yrs and an outdoor play area. The nursery provides children with the best start in life where every child’s individual needs are celebrated.
The team of experienced, qualified Early Years staff; hand-picked for their passion and expertise, provide a nurturing and stimulating learning environment for every child. Learning is always fun at Elland Children’s Centre Nursery meaning that children develop to their full potential with the support and encouragement of the dedicated and caring staff. The nursery’s Ofsted rating is ‘Good with Outstanding features’. The nursery is fully open to all children even in the current lockdown and operating in a very Covid safe way.
