Jubilee Funding Announced
National Lottery Community Fund – Platinum Jubilee Fund 70 UK projects to mark Her Majesty the Queen’s 70th Jubilee: Grants from £30,000 to £50,000. Deadline 5pm 15 Dec.
National Lottery Heritage Fund – Jubilee Fund £5m for communities across the UK to re-connect with the nature on their doorstep. An additional £2m will create 70 paid placements for young people from under-served and disadvantaged backgrounds. No other details available yet.
Arts Council England – Let’s Create Jubilee Fund (Opens Jan 22) Grants £750 – £10,000. Deadline 28 Feb 22.
Historic England Music Commission EOI
Over summer 2022, Historic England will bring music to the high street, to bring special and diverse places together to help people feel pride in their high street. Through a series of commissions, new music will be created that celebrates the high street and encourages people to spend time there by capturing what is unique about the heritage and culture of 6-10 High Street Heritage Action Zones. The new musical outputs will be performed on the high streets, potentially coinciding with a national event such as Make Music Day or National High Streets Day.

Hebden Bridge Arts Festival Appoints new Creative Producer
Hebden Bridge Arts Festival is excited to announce the appointment of new Creative Producer, Rebekah Fozard. Rebekah will be joining the organisation with effect from January 2022, after 9 years as Manager at Hebden Bridge Picture House. Rebekah joins Hebden Bridge Arts Festival at an inspiring time, hot on the heels of the Board of Trustees securing funding support from Calderdale Council, Arts Council England, Hebden Royd Town Council and Art Fund for its Creative Neighbourhoods project. Project Manager, Clare Danon, continues to propel this venture which brings together exciting artists with 6 groups across Calderdale to creatively explore the environment, culminating in a public sharing of work. NHS to give therapy for depression before medication under new guidelines
A report in The Guardian revealed that millions of people with mild depression in England should be offered therapy, exercise, mindfulness or meditation before antidepressants, according to the first new NHS guidelines in more than a decade. Read full article here
Screen Yorkshire Announces New Chief Executive
Screen Yorkshire announces that Caroline Cooper Charles has been appointed as its new Chief Executive, replacing Sally Joynson, who is retiring from the business at the end of 2021, after 16 years at the helm. Caroline joined Screen Yorkshire as Head of Industry Development in 2018, since taking up the role of Head of Creative in February 2020, Caroline has managed Screen Yorkshire’s ‘Yorkshire Content Fund’, overseeing investments and acting as production executive on TV dramas such as All Creatures Great and Small, The Confessions of Frannie Langton and Ackley Bridge and feature films including Ali & Ava.

Work with Calderdale Libraries
Yorkshire and Humber Libraries are working together to deliver a Reading Pictures, Seeing Stories Festival in April/May 2022. The festival is based around visual literacy and different ways of storytelling. We would love to work with local artists, illustrators, comic book artists, digital artists – anyone who feels they have a visual approach to storytelling in the broadest sense.
This would be to offer sessions for either children and families or school classes in either libraries or schools.

Open Call to Leeds City Region artists
This is an artist call out responding to an opportunity to be part of the national creative project: The World Reimagined. From August-October 2022, Leeds will join other UK cities to host trails of ten large Globe sculptures, created by artists to bring to life the reality and impact of the Transatlantic Slave Trade. The conversations in Leeds will showcase our diverse communities, enable intercultural conversations and celebrate creativity as a tool for social change in our communities.
The call out is free to enter and additional support can be offered to artists with access needs.
A commission of £1,500 is available for successful artists, plus £150 for materials. Deadline for submissions is 5pm 31st December 2021.

Glow Winter Festival 6th – 12th December 2021
Glow, Sowerby Bridge’s all new winter art festival, takes place for the first time on the week commencing 6th December 2021, with a big festival finale on 12th December 2021.
Glow begins with an Art Trail being mounted in the windows of Sowerby Bridge high street. The art featured is a collection of Light Art pieces created by local artists and secondary school students from Ryburn Valley High School in Sowerby Bridge. The art will be available for viewing from 6th December until 13th December 2021, and a map of artwork will be available on the Glow social media pages.
The Glow finale is a festival of art happening on 12th December 2021 on Hollins Mill Lane. This features outdoor performances from local theatre companies Thingumajig Theatre and Eye of the Newt, alongside a specially created performance by the Calderdale Theatre School, music from the Sowerby Bridge Street Band, and fire eating from drag queen Dolls Nest. The festival will begin at 4pm on Hollins Mill Lane and end with a fireworks display at 6pm.

Opal’s Comet Exhibition at IOU Gallery from 11th December
A new exhibit documents the journey of “Opal’s Comet”, an outdoor performance project, conceived and written by Sonya Moorhead. The exhibition of photography, sculpture and film (directed by Nick Farrimond) documents the tone and content of project so far. The exhibition space is free to access and is open every day throughout December and January (from the 11th December onwards, with some closures over the Christmas and New Year period).
