Activities to keep you active and well in Shelf

Come along, try out new activities and make new friends at Shelf Library every Tuesday from 5 April – 27 September 2016 (excluding 12 April, 24 May, 12 July, 2 August and 20 September)

Activities include:

  • Relaxation Therapy/Meditation – achieve calmness of mind and body (2-3pm)
  • Kurling – just like curling but without the ice (2-3pm)
  • Tai Chi – gentle exercise and good for balance. (3.30-4.30pm)

Includes a break for tea/coffee and chat

Please wear loose fitting clothes and comfortable footwear.

Prior to any form of new physical activity it is advised that you consult with your doctor.

Art Exhibition and Sale at All Saints’ Church this weekend

Go along to an Art Exhibition and Sale with organ music and craft stalls this weekend at All Saints’ Church, Savile Road, Elland, HX5 0NH on the following dates.

Preview evening – Admission £5
Friday 29 April – 7pm to 9.30pm

Other opening times – Admission £2 (Under 11’s go FREE)
Saturday 30 April – 10.30am to 5pm
Sunday 1 May – 12noon to 5pm

Tesco Bags of Help Programme Open to Applications

Tesco offers grants through its Bags of Help Programme which is funded by Tesco customers from the proceeds of the 5p charge for plastic carrier bags as a result of a government carrier bag levy.

The deadline for applications is Friday 3 June 2016

The community grant scheme will support around grants of £8,000, £10,000 and £12,000 are available for capital improvements to local community greenspaces that have free and open access to all members of the community for a minimum of six days a week, during daylight hours.

Calder and Colne Community Clean Up

The Calder and Colne Rivers Trust is working with partners to clean up Hoyle House Beck. Go and help out, then visit the information tent in Wellholme park where you can have your say on planning for improvement to the river.

Voice your Choice Winners announced for 2016

The winners of the 2016 Voice your choice was Woodhouse Lane Play area with 27.03% of the final votes and an award of £30,000 which will enable them to create a modern, accessible, multi age play facility and community space to benefit the whole community.

In second place was Fruit for all with 16.44% of the vote and an award of £20,000 from which they plan to plant 300 to 400 fruit trees and bushes throughout the HD6 3 area in a series of mini orchards.

Taking third was Bradley Wood Camping Pods with 16.26% of the votes and an award of £15,000 to place pods around Bradley Lodge within the ancient woodland in order to make camping practical all year round for schools, local groups, and youth organisations.

Further details about the winning projects will be available when Rastrick Big Local have their stall at the BBI spring market on Saturday 23 April.

Celebrate the work of Calderdale & Kirklees Women Centre
