Cromwell bottom logoLook at winter birds or practice your photography skills with the following events taking place at Cromwell Bottom this month. Both events are FREE although donations can be made if you wish and you can call in for half an hour or spend the whole morning and enjoy a warm drink in the cabin.

Meet the birds – Saturday 16 January – from 9.30am
A chance to have a relaxed look at winter birds in the reserve with volunteers to guide you and give helpful hints and tips.

Get that photo – Saturday 30 January – from 9.30am
A morning of advice and practice for everyone, from smartphone users to long lens experts, kids to grandparents. Learn how to set up a good place to get your photos, and get advice [if you want it] on useful features on your camera.

Yorkshire Flood Aid fundraiser – This weekend!

Halifax is hosting a wonderful night of entertainment to help people affected by the floods in Yorkshire. Staff are giving their time for free, and the Council is covering any production costs.

Sunday 10 January at 6.30pm
At the Victoria Theatre, Halifax

The Yorkshire Flood Aid concert will be compered by Christa Ackroyd and will feature a variety of performers from the worlds of music and comedy, including Cannon and Ball, Britain’s Got Talent runner-up, Jack Carroll, cast members from Emmerdale, vocalist Lizzie Jones, plus much much more.

Tickets are selling quickly and are priced at £15. All funds raised will be going to the Community Foundation for Calderdale.

VAC Training – Welcoming people with disabilities into your organisation

This session is aimed at organisations wanting to improve their accessibility for individuals with a disability and will look at how your organisation welcomes and works with disabled people and will use the social model of disability to explore how even small adjustments can make a huge difference.

Wednesday 27 January – 10am to 1pm
At Voluntary Action Calderdale, Hall St, Halifax, HX1 5AY

The session will be interactive and will include some information about ‘a day in the life’ of a Can Do volunteer and by the end of it participants will have:

  • Considered how they might adapt their own organisations to be more welcoming for disabled people.
  • Started to develop a plan to ensure disabled people are really welcome in their organisation.

VAC Training – Devising Project Budgets for Bids

When you are applying for funding, an integral part of the bid is the finance section. This session will help attendees be able to submit budgets relevant to your funding application and meeting the criteria of the funder.

This session will also look at applying for funding that will cover the costs of the project, not half way through the project realising you have overspent, or have not anticipated the full costs of the project
