Sing Out Loud – Singing sessions in Elland, starts tomorrow

Go along and join in with stimulating and uplifting singing sessions beginning with some social time over a cup of tea or coffee followed by some gentle physical and vocal warm up actions before singing.

Starts Thursday 17 September – 1.45pm to 3.30pm
At Hamerton Close, Westgate, Elland, HX5 0BD

The group will continue to meet every two weeks on the first and third Thursday of each month and sessions up until Christmas are as follows:

  • Thursday 1 October – 1.45pm to 3.30pm
  • Thursday 15 October – 1.45pm to 3.30pm
  • Thursday 5 November – 1.45pm to 3.30pm
  • Thursday 19 November – 1.45pm to 3.30pm
  • Thursday 3 December – 1.45pm to 3.30pm
  • Thursday 17 December – 1.45pm to 3.30pm

The group welcome people with dementia and their carers and don’t mind if you have no experience of singing with others, as it’s about finding your voice and just enjoying the moment.

Support Working Wonders at the Rastrick Beer Festival

The fifth Rastrick Beer Festival looks set to be another highly successful event and will take place at St John’s Community Hall, St John Street, Off Gooder Lane, Rastrick, HD6 1HN on the following dates:

  • Friday 18 September 2015 – 3pm to 10.30pm
  • Saturday 19 September 2015 – 1pm to 10.30pm

Tickets will be sold at the door and the cost of entry is £5 which includes a souvenir glass, a booklet about the beers and ciders as well as your first half pint drink and tokens can be purchased for additional drinks which are exchanged when drinks are ordered.

Admire the landscape of Calderdale at Smith Art Gallery

Visitors to Smith Art Gallery in Brighouse can now admire Calderdale’s beautiful scenery without setting a foot outside, as their current exhibition celebrates scenic artworks of the Calderdale region.

The ‘Landscapes of the South Pennines’ exhibition offers visitors the chance to see a selection of artworks depicting views of Calderdale. Together, these works show how the diversity of landscapes in the borough has inspired artists throughout the years… read more here…

The FREE exhibition runs until Saturday 17 October and is open Monday and Friday 10am to 5pm, Tuesday and Thursday 10am to 4pm and Saturday 10am to 3.30pm.

Conference of the Curious at Bankfield Museum

As part of its Cabinets of Curiosity Exhibition, Bankfield Museum is hosting a ‘Conference of the Curious’ with a range of speakers on topics including costume, taxidermy, photography and vampire slaying kits.

Wuthering Bytes festival in Hebden Bridge

Calderdale council have been invited to front three days of Wuthering Bytes to celebrate all things digital, technology and innovation and how this translates into transforming public services.

Taking place at Hebden Bridge Town Hall from 8am on the following dates:

  • Tuesday 29 September
  • Wednesday 30 September
  • Thursday 1 October

Go along for a packed three days full of interesting talks and hands-on workshops as part of Wuthering Bytes; a week-long festival of technology in the heart of the Pennines, featuring talks and workshops on a diverse range of topics, including open source software and hardware, open data, the Web, citizen innovation and the Internet of Things (IoT)

Safer Communities Fund, apply for up to £5,000

The Safer Communities Fund is a grant giving scheme which is designed to make funding easily accessible for projects that aim to make West Yorkshire safer and feel safer.

Application deadline to grant round 6 Friday 25 September 2015 (5pm).

Grant round 6 has a generic theme and projects will address the Police and Crime Plan priorities (see page 7 of the plan).

Voluntary and community groups, small charities and not-for-profit groups as well as National charities working in West Yorkshire can apply for up to £5,000.

Meet at Park Wood Crematorium, Elland for a stroll looking for bats in the local area as they prepare themselves for hibernation.

Wednesday 16 September at 7.30pm

  • Easy walk on level paths
  • Particularly suitable for families (strictly no unaccompanied children)
  • Sorry no dogs with the exception of guide or hearing dogs
  • Walk – please wear appropriate footwear and clothing.

Insect repellent, warm clothing and a torch recommended and parking available in the crematorium grounds.
