Accredited Courses at The Learning Cafe, Brighouse

Verity from Creativity in Practice will be delivering the first Learning cafe hosted by Focus4Success for those wanting to undertake accredited courses in Mentoring, Helping Others, Awareness of Mental Health and volunteering.

The session on Wednesday 16 February, 12:00pm-2:00pm at The Room, Brighouse, at The Old Town Hall HD6 1EA will be a friendly relaxed environment where the following information will be discussed:

  • Dealing with problems in daily life
  • Healthy living
  • Managing own money
  • Preparation for work
  • Working towards goals
  • Supporting babies to play
  • Healthy eating for families
  • Job search skills
  • Interview skills
  • Preparing for your next steps

Funding eligibility requirements are:
Unemployed and in receipt of JSA, ESA or WRAG, Universal Credit or other State Benefit.

OR:

Job seeking or working 16+ hours or less a week and/or earning below £15,736.50 annual gross salary. AND:

Have lived in the UK or EU continuously for the last 3 years.

Learners who haven’t lived in the UK or EU for the required 3 years are eligible if they have refugee status, indefinite leave to remain or other (please enquire for more information). Or 6 months if asylum seekers.

Lunch and drinks will be provided prior to the session beginning.

Do you want to have your say about local issues that are important to you?

Comment on areas such as schools, roads, street cleaning and anything else that concerns you directly to your local councillor and senior council staff?

Get feedback on what difference your input has made.  Attend your local ward forum and give us your views!

Sensory Play at Wellholme Park Children’s Centre

Sure Start Children’s Centres, North Halifax Partnership will be  hosting Sensory Play Sessions at Wellholme Park Children’s Centre, Bradford Road, Brighouse HD6 4AF starting on Wednesday 23 January, 1:30am-2:30pm.

In the 4 weekly sessions suitable for children 0 – 2½, families will learn different ways to help their child learn through play. Each week there will be a different focus from natural/home objects like pots and pans and wooden spoons to music and have messy/creative play.

Grant Funding from Hillards Trust

Limited to areas of former Hillards shops, covering Sowerby Bridge, Brighouse (including Elland) and Todmorden. The Trust usually makes grants on a one-off basis of £1,000, but also seeks to make 2 grants a year of up to £10,000 if it can identify projects that will have a significant impact on an organisation’s effective delivery of its services.

Criteria:

  • Old Age luncheon clubs, outings, winter aid and help for the disabled
  • Education of the young e.g. reading support, literacy, advocation, one to one support, enhancing sports opportunities
  • Children’s charities unless they fall within the exclusions
  • Medical health related volunteer schemes, respite care and hospices
  • Church based projects with a proven outreach factor

There is no deadline, but Trustees meet at end of March 2019.

Domestic Abuse – in Whatever Language at Whatever Time

Have you or a family member been affected by Domestic Abuse?
Do you need some support or someone to talk to about the abuse?
Are you struggling to cope with the effects of family violence?

Christmas, for some families is a time of celebration, but unfortunately for some the expectations of being there to provide and support can make Christmas a challenging time. Don’t forget the Samaritans are always there to help you and can be contacted though our link.

Calderdale Staying Safe has published a series of guides to in different languages to support those who may not know what services are available in UrduCzech and Polish.

Calderdale Staying Safe, the Domestic Abuse Support Service has released a flyer that can be downloaded here and printed to give the latest information on how to contact them, 01422 323339 Monday to Friday 9:00am-5:00pm. The leaflet also includes the out of hours number.

There are also leaflets in different languages

In an emergency, call 999 or to report an incident to the Police, please call 101.

Staying Safe has a skilled, experienced and diverse staff team who speak other languages or will make every effort to find language support through interpreters.

This is a free and confidential service to anyone aged 16 and above, who has been affected by domestic abuse and who lives in Calderdale.
Support is available to people regardless of their sexuality, gender, disability, religion or ethnic origin.
Support is also available for children 5 years and above, who have been affected by domestic abuse.
There are dedicated male and female support workers.

Clifton Methodist Church Christmas Tree Festival

Clifton Methodist Church, Towngate, Clifton, Brighouse. HD6 4HX will be holding a Christmas Tree Festival with 28 real trees. The opening service will be on Friday 30 November, 6:00pm with viewings and refreshments 6:00pm-9:00pm on Friday, Saturday 1 December, 12:00pm-5:00pm with a final service of celebration and award on Sunday 2 December, 4:00pm.

Better Lives at Number 42 Outreach Sessions

Better Lives at No 42 are holding a number of outreach sessions for those who find it difficult to get to the service at 42, Market Street, Halifax.

The new sessions are at Lawson Road Health Centre, Brighouse HD6 1NY on Mondays, 10:00am–12:00pm on 3, 10 and 17 December with future dates to be confirmed.

There will also be sessions at the GP Surgery, Hirstwood  HX6 4BN on the first Wednesday of the month, 9:00-11:00am.

Better Lives at number 42 Market Street, Halifax is a service for adults providing the support needed to stay healthy, independent and in control of your life for as long as possible.

Open Monday to Friday there is a team of social workers providing accessible, face to face information and support to adults in Calderdale.

Open in the Halifax base on Monday, Tuesday, Friday, 10:00am-4:00pm, Wednesday 1:00pm-4:00pm & Thursday 10:00am-1:00pm.

Helping with health & well-being, promoting independence, support for carers, information about technology such as pendant alarms, signposting to other support organisations such as Staying Well and Age UK Calderdale & Kirklees.
