Yorkshire Smoke Free LogoWorking in partnership with Calderdale Council, the ‘Quit and Get Fit’ initiative offers local people who have stopped smoking for 4 weeks with the service, a free 7 day pass to local leisure and sports centres including:

  • Halifax Swimming Pool
  • North Bridge Leisure Centre
  • Sowerby Bridge Swimming Pool and Fitness Centre
  • Todmorden Sports Centre
  • Brighouse Leisure Centre

Yorkshire Smokefree Calderdale offer a range of resources to help people quit that you can pick and mix to suit you including telephone support, face to face sessions and an online quitting programme.

The School requires a Housekeeping Assistant to join the housekeeping team and part of the job includes laundry and sewing skills using an industrial machine.

The successful applicant could be expected to work on the Schools’ directed days and may also be required to work up to two weekends per year if needed. You should be able to support your application with proof of relevant experience.

The school is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects all staff to share this commitment. The successful candidate will be subject to an Enhanced Disclosure & Barring Service background check.

The successful candidate would be supporting the Wildlife Officer by assisting admin support as well as liaising with the public and external agencies.

We are looking for a volunteer who has knowledge of wildlife and countryside law and the ability to engage with members of the Police and public.

This role is based throughout the Calderdale District.

Halifax Men in Sheds Launch Meeting – 5 Aug

A place to pursue hobbies and interests in a friendly and welcoming environment.

And where you can enjoy a chat and a brew…

We are a group of men in Halifax looking for other men to join us in creating a place where we can get together to share and learn new skills.

Shed members share tools and skills. They choose projects to undertake and work at their own pace. Sheds can change lives, improve health and restore a sense of purpose.

Yorkshire Gardens Trust small grants

The YGT Trustees have allocated a grant fund for 2016 to help projects concerning important parks and gardens in the County, both large and small.

The maximum possible single grant will be the lesser of £1,000 or 50% of the total cost of a project.
The grant may be awarded either towards the cost of one or more of the following:

  • A survey or environmental assessment, covering physical, horticultural, botanical, archaeological or historical aspects;
  • A management, development, restoration or conservation plan;
  • Restoration or conservation works;
  • The creation of a new garden;
  • The restoration of appropriate garden ornaments or statues;
  • The preservation or restoration of documents associated with any of the above or with an important person who has been concerned with Yorkshire’s parks and gardens;
  • The public interpretation of a park or garden;
  • A project satisfying the educational objectives of the Trust
