And information and support clinics: Baby clinic, Health visitor clinic, Antenatal, Postnatal support and Childminder group and Family group.

Sector Support Calderdale is offering FREE one-to-one support and advice for community, voluntary and not for profit groups in Calderdale.

On Thursday 17 September, 9.30am – 1pm at Cartwheel Youth & Community Centre, Elland, HX5 9DW

Get help with:

Volunteer as an ESOL teacher with Talk English!

Talk EnglishVolunteer to teach learners on Talk English Courses and help people to improve their speaking, listening, reading and writing skills.

The Role
Teaching ESOL (English for Speakers of Other Languages) is a rewarding yet challenging experience. Focusing on the things people need to do in their everyday lives, such as going shopping, using public transport and going to the doctors, you will help learners to develop their speaking, listening, reading and writing skills.

Volunteering as an ESOL teacher is a great opportunity for you to gain experience and develop new skills while making a difference to peoples lives. By volunteering with Talk English you will gain experience of teaching, working as part of a team and working with learners from all over the world. You will also develop your communication, presentation and organisational skills.

The Training
We offer a FREE ‘Introduction to Teaching ESOL’ training course which introduces the role and responsibilities of Talk English volunteer ESOL teachers and ESOL teaching, learning and assessment methods and resources.  We may even be able to offer a fast track option for people who have already got teaching qualifications.

The Person
If you’ve got an interest in helping others, want to develop news skills, can commit to a minimum of 3 hours a week to co-teach ESOL in a community setting and able to attend the training course then we’d love to hear from you!

The Location
The WEA Yorkshire and Humber Talk English courses will initially be running in Calderdale and Wakefield. You don’t have to live in these areas but you would need to be able to travel to one or the other to teach the classes.

Help restore St Matthew’s Churchyard – This Sunday

Get involved in the restoration of St Matthew’s Churchyard located opposite the Sun Inn, Lightcliffe.

On Sunday 16 August 2015 – 2pm to 4pm

Join a small group dedicated to restoring the old churchyard surrounding the tower on the third Sunday of every month – no tools or special skills required, just go along in your old clothes and get involved.

This is an opportunity for volunteers to support operational policing through the Wildlife Officer in Calderdale.

The successful candidate would be supporting the Wildlife Officer by assisting admin support as well as liaising with the public and external agencies.

We are looking for a volunteer who has knowledge of wildlife and countryside law and the ability to engage with members of the Police and public.

This role is based throughout the Calderdale District.

Halifax Men in Sheds Launch Meeting – 5 Aug

A place to pursue hobbies and interests in a friendly and welcoming environment.

And where you can enjoy a chat and a brew…

We are a group of men in Halifax looking for other men to join us in creating a place where we can get together to share and learn new skills.

Shed members share tools and skills. They choose projects to undertake and work at their own pace. Sheds can change lives, improve health and restore a sense of purpose.
