Celebrate Yorkshire Day at the Classic Car Rally this weekend

Celebrate Yorkshire Day  with the cars of yesteryear when the Classic Car Rally rolls into town.

classiccarOn Saturday 1 August 2015 – Elland Town Centre

Entry is FREE and there will be a bouncy castle for children as well as mini quad bikes, market stalls and of course a display of classic cars provided by Yorkshire Thoroughbred Car Show.

Supported by Calderdale Council, Bellicatessen, Oliver’s and The Savile Arms and sponsored by Nissan of Halifax, it’s an event not to be missed.

Hubbub at the Hub!

Elland SWIn the past few weeks the project has been focusing on building the Staying Well Hub; we want to connect the community and promote Elland as a place that cares about the health and wellbeing of its communities.

And we’re excited to announce that the local Staying Well Steering Group has just approved funding applications totalling over £32,000 for new projects in Elland including a Befriending scheme, Dementia Reading Champions and a transport solution to enable disabled people to attend social, leisure and health activities in the area.

Treble Talents Summer Singing Workshop

trebletalentsYoung singers aged between 8 to 13 years old are needed to join a fun filled workshop to discover hidden star talents.

5 day workshop only £50 per person!

From Monday 24 to Friday 28 August – 10am to 4pm

At St John the Divine, St John Street, Rastrick HD6 1HT

Friday’s workshop includes a concert at 6pm with a live CD recording

Tickets cost £50 per singer with 50% of the proceeds being donated towards St John’s Organ Fund.

Yorkshire Gardens Trust small grants

The YGT Trustees have allocated a grant fund for 2016 to help projects concerning important parks and gardens in the County, both large and small.

The maximum possible single grant will be the lesser of £1,000 or 50% of the total cost of a project.
The grant may be awarded either towards the cost of one or more of the following:

  • A survey or environmental assessment, covering physical, horticultural, botanical, archaeological or historical aspects;
  • A management, development, restoration or conservation plan;
  • Restoration or conservation works;
  • The creation of a new garden;
  • The restoration of appropriate garden ornaments or statues;
  • The preservation or restoration of documents associated with any of the above or with an important person who has been concerned with Yorkshire’s parks and gardens;
  • The public interpretation of a park or garden;
  • A project satisfying the educational objectives of the Trust

The Calderdale Cares Lottery

calderdale caresThe Calderdale Cares Lottery from Halifax Rugby League Football Club is administered by Community Foundation for Calderdale and has been set up with the aim of raising funds to support worthy charities, organisations and individuals in the Calderdale community.

The grants programme will support local organisations that will benefit Calderdale residents.

Unlike the National Lottery, which is £2, the Calderdale Cares Lottery is only £1 a week to enter.

You could win one of over 40 weekly prizes with daily draws (Mon-Fri) of £100, a rollover jackpot every Saturday of up to £2,000 and £5,000 super draws twice a year.

A minimum of 35% of every pound will be donated to support good causes across the Calderdale area, which is more than the National Lottery and Health Lottery as they only donate 28% and 20% respectively. To join, click here…

Small Grants Scheme and Community Festivals and Events Fund

Is your organisation looking for funding for an event or equipment?

Monday 3 August is the next deadline for the Council’s Community Small Grants Scheme and Community Festivals and Events Fund.

Calderdale-based voluntary, community or faith groups can apply for up to £3,000 from the Small Grants Scheme, and up to £5,000 from the Festivals & Events Fund.

You will need to provide copies of your most recent annual accounts and an eligible constitution; if you work with children or vulnerable adults you will also need to provide a copy of your safeguarding policy.

In the past the schemes have supported youth groups, sports clubs, and community centres, as well as major festivals and events throughout the Borough.
