Bank Holiday Closing for Her Majesty, The Queen’s State Funeral September 19th

Please note that Calderdale Council Services will be mostly unavailable during this day.

There may be other service disruptions elsewhere, please consult with appropriate organisations.

Crematorium – open, the office will be closed, but the phone line will be open

Libraries – closed

Markets – closed

Museums – closed

Register Office – closed

The Shay – closed

Sport Centres – closed

Victoria Theatre – box office and theatre will be closed

Waste and Recycling – refuse, recycling and garden waste are cancelled, Refuse waste scheduled for Monday 19 Sept will be collected on Tuesday 20 September and collections for these services will run a day late during this week.

Recycling collections scheduled for Monday 19 September will not be re-scheduled. Please return containers to their storage point, crews will collect Monday’s recycling on Monday 26 September. Recycling collections from Tuesday 20th will be to the current schedule.

Cinderella Magic Wand Workshop at Shibden Hall

On Saturday 15 December meet Cinderella and her Fairy Godmother at Shibden Hall in this magical costumed workshop.

Help Cinderella with her chores and discover old toys. Create your magic wand and cast a spell to send Cinderella to the ball.

Adults £3.50, Children £7. Includes admission to the hall. Time slots available:

  • 11:15am-1:00pm
  • 1:30pm-3:15pm

For King and Country Open Day at Bankfield Museum

An Open Day based upon the King and Country exhibition will be held on Saturday 9 June at Bankfield Museum, .

There will be free activities and events suitable for all ages commemorating the region’s First World War experiences.

Bankfield Museum’s exhibition commemorating the region’s wartime contribution features over 200 objects, 200 images and archives and 60 local stories to explore local experiences during the First World War. From soldiers, sailors and nurses to those at home working in munitions, hospitals and fundraising.

Pirate Day at Shibden Hall

There are three sessions 11:00-12:00, 13:00-14:00 and 14:00-15:00. Please select the session when booking.

Search for pirates and take part in our pirate crafts up at the Hall. Free eye patch when you attend the activity. Please note this activity includes a woodland walk which is unsuitable for prams and buggies. Children must be accompanied by a parent/carer.

Bankfield Buddies! Craft activities for under fives

Get along to Bankfield Museum and join in our craft activities for under-fives. In this relaxed, friendly environment children can play, enjoy a story and learn more about the fascinating objects on display.

Meet in Akroyd Library in the Museum.

Free parking and ramped push chair access at the back of the Museum. Sessions run from 10.30am-11.15am. £2.00 per child. Booking is not required, please pay on the day. Hot and cold drinks available to buy from reception.

Map-related talks and workshops:

Calderdale’s Waterways- Saturday 8th July at 2pm. Join Mike Clarke, a waterway’s historian, to look at the development of West Yorkshire’s industrial waterways, through maps and photos, and put their development into a national and international perspective. CLICK HERE FOR MORE DETAILS AND BOOKING.
