Sure Start Children’s Centres Newsletter Spring 2018

The Sure Start newsletter for Spring 2018 includes details of the new baby clinics, a what’s on guide for all our Children’s Centres and how to follow each individual Centre on it’s own Facebook page.

Have you thought about getting a better deal on your energy bills? With NHP Energy Levels you could boost your energy and save money. The newsletter gives details of the drop-in sessions January to March 2018 when Ofgem and Citizens Advice will show you how to go Energy Shopping.

The newsletter also includes dates for Sure Start training courses taking place in both Lower Valley and North & East Halifax from January to March 2018.

Help put your local market on the map by voting for it as Britain’s favourite market by the voting deadline on Tuesday 10 January 2017

Write a story, get it published and even made into a film!

‘Screen Your Story’ is a wonderful opportunity for all young storytellers to get their book published and even have it made into a film!

This years theme is horror but it doesn’t need to be blood and gore – probably better not.

Write one of the best stories and your prize will be to see it published in a superb, fully illustrated collection ‘Stories From the Young’. You will also get the chance to work with professional film makers to make your story into a film and see your film shown at the Barnes Film Festival in September 2017.

There are 7 groups for entries:

  • Up to and including Reception
  • Years 1 and 2
  • Years 3 and 4
  • Years 5 and 6
  • Years 7 and 8
  • Year 9 and over
  • Red Letter entries for students with special educational needs

Santa Paws is coming to Kershaws – Amended Time

With Christmas just around the corner Santa Paws will be at Kershaws Garden Centre waiting to meet and greet your four legged friends with a gift!

Monday 19 December – 11am to 12pm
At Kershaw’s Garden Centre, Halifax Rd, Brighouse, HD6 2QD

All breeds, pups, seniors and sizes are welcome and as this is the season for giving, Kershaws are teaming up with the RSPCA Halifax, Huddersfield and District Branch to see if customers will help animals less fortunate than their own and make a donation to give them a better life in 2017.

Family Christmas Party   Games – Craft work – Food and Father Christmas!!   Free  All Welcome.  No need to book please just turn up and join in!

Friday 30 December – 6pm to 8pm  
Soup and Sandwiches.  Free event open to all who need food or need company and conversation.  All Welcome.

FREE festive activities at Orange Box for ages 11+

If you know a young person aged 11 or over, then tell them to head down to Orange Box young people’s centre this Christmas holiday for some free festive activities.

Monday 19 to Thursday 22 December – 2pm to 4pm and Friday 23 December – 2pm to 9pm at Orange Box Young People’s Centre, 1 Blackledge, HX1 1AF

Participants can make their own Christmas crafts, sing their favourite karaoke tunes, act out a Christmas scene, cook an alternative Christmas dinner, enter a table tennis tournament, climb to new heights in the bouldering tunnel or make Christmas party treats.
