Armed Forces Event in Halifax Town Centre

This event is FREE to attend

Saturday 17 June – 9am to 5pm
At Southgate, Halifax Town Centre

Enjoy yourself at this free event with stalls, military vehicles, equipment, a medical tent and full field kitchen, plus much more.

Official Opening of Armed Forces Event on Southgate by the Mayor of Calderdale at 11am

Representatives from the armed forces will be there, so come along and find out more aboutmilitary life past and present.

Elland 700 at Elland Library – Walk and Write around Elland

This year marks the 700 year anniversary of Elland becoming an official market town.

The town received a Royal Charter on 24 February 1317 from King Edward II allowing it to host a weekly market, as well as two fairs a year.

On 15 June 2017 – 14:00 to 17:00 take a short walk around Elland exploring its history with a knowledgeable local guide. Cherishing Churchyards Week – June 3 Activities for Children

On Saturday 3 June Chris Sutcliffe, a Calderdale countryside officer, will be organising Half Term Nature Activities for Children in St. Matthew’s Churchyard (opposite The Sun Inn) from 1:15 pm as part of our Celebration Event. All welcome. The Mayor & Mayoress of Calderdale are also visiting on that afternoon.

You are always very welcome to come and wander around St. Matthew’s Churchyard, Lightcliffe  which has been restored over the past few years. If you can’t visit the churchyard  that week, then visit www.lightcliffechurchyard.org.uk and take a virtual tour or trace a family headstone.

 

Classic Bike and Scooter Show in Sowerby Bridge

The Rotary club of Sowerby Bridge (RCoSB) 4th annual Classic Bike and Scooter Show promises to be bigger and better than before.

Pre 1980 scooter and bikes can be entered into the show with 16 categories – there is a new one this year: post 1980 modern classics and custom bikes.

Please see our website www.rotarysowerbybridge.org for details on how to enter. The pre entry fee is £5 and on the day is £6. Bikes and scooters need to arrive on the day between 8am – 10am. Winners will be announced in the afternoon.

One of the star exhibits will be the Russian Ice Speedway Bike formally owned by a runner up in the 1994-2002 world championships. This 2 valve Jawa engine bike specially built for the sport has 28mm spikes in the tyres (350 in total) to ensure a grip on the ice. It is a spectacle in itself and is not to be misses as this is suspected to be the only one in the country in its current form. Read the rest of this entry »

Castle Carr Fountain Walk 2017 – Tickets available!

This July in the estate of Castle Carr, their famous gravity fed fountain will once again rise magnificently into the sky.

Sunday 2 July 2017  A picturesque walk, 2.5 miles each way will commence from the Cat I’th Well Inn at 12noon prompt.

The estate will be open from noon until 3. Suitable footwear should be worn as parts of the walk are wet and muddy and uneven.

The fountain itself will play from 2pm for just over 15 minutes.

Organised again by the Rotary Club of Halifax, and with permission granted by Yorkshire Water and the land owner, it is again hoped the fountain will reach a height of over 100 feet.

This is strictly a ticket only event. Tickets costing £5 each can be purchased from the Crossroad Inn, the Cat ith Well Inn, Woodlesford Newsagents near Mount Tabor and Harvey’s of Halifax ( 3rd Floor Customer Services).

For families, a ticket enabling entry for two adults and up to three children is available for £15. Children under 5 have free entry. Well behaved dogs are welcome, but must be kept on a lead. Tickets can also be booked online here

Elland & District Partnership

The Elland & District Partnership are looking for new members preferably with I T skills and an enthusiasm to regenerate the Town.

Elland District Partnership (EDP) is a Not-for-Profit Company, Limited by Guarantee that works alongside a variety of stakeholders (including Calderdale Council) to create a thriving business and social community in the Elland And District area. They work in partnership with the council and other appropriate organisations to assist, promote and encourage such regeneration.

They also require a person with financial skills to fill the position of Treasurer.

RSPCA Halifax and Huddersfield will be having a Motown Night at Berties in Elland with a live DJ playing all the best Soul and Motown favourites with a little bit of funk mixed in for good measure!
