Let Focus4Hope collect and recycle your tree! – book by January 8th

Posted on Updated on

There is nothing quite like the look and scent of a real tree at Christmas, but when Christmas is over, they can be a hassle to dispose of.

Why not let Focus4Hope collect and recycle your tree this January!

For a small donation, we will pick up your tree from outside your home and recycle it for you, it takes the stress and hassle away from you and is good for the environment too!

Our amazing volunteers will be collecting Christmas Trees from Thursday 12th January to Saturday 14th January 2023.

Collection postcodes: HD6, HX1, HX2, HX3, HX4 and HX5.

Registration closes 10pm on Sunday 8th January 2023

For a one off donation Focus4Hope will collect the Christmas tree and recycle it in a sustainable manner at Ogden Water Nature Reserve. The service is run by volunteers with individuals and companies giving up their time and vans.

Could you become a Tree recycling volunteer? Please get in touch with us!

What we’ve learned from the Community Get Together at Hove Edge Bowling Club

Posted on Updated on

On Tuesday 13th of September, Staying Well and Focus4Hope, arranged an event at Hove Edge bowling club.  The aim of the event was to provide information to local residents of Hipperholme and Hove Edge on services are locally available to help them lead a healthier and happier life.

On the day the following groups and services attended; Hipperhome Christ Church, Memory Lane Cafe, Active Calderdale, Better Living Service, Invictus Wellbeing, Calderdale Dementia Hub, Vita Minds, Cromwell Bottom Wildlife group and our very own NHP Neighbourhood team and Sure Start Children’s centres.

All these organisations offer fantastic opportunities to meet others, gain support around dementia, move more indoors and out, access emotional wellbeing services, achieve a healthier weight, access excursions and other local events. Many of those we endeavour to publish in our online blogs to which you can sign up to.

We enjoyed refreshments and cakes.  Focus4Hope delighted us with their culinary skills providing delicious hot food of Vegetarian Chili and Sausage casserole, Crust and Crumb offered delicious woodfired pizzas made on the day.

As well as valuable networking, we had a unique opportunity to listen to a talk from West Yorkshire Police about personal safety at home, out & about and current scams.  The event concluded with a meditation session from Tai Chi Tigers, concentrating on breathing and gentle stretching exercises.

The Hipperholme and Hove Edge residents who came, gave our Staying Well workers very positive feedback, saying they enjoyed the day, as well as encouraging requests for more such events in the future. People signed up for various services and there was active interest in taking up Tai Chi, while West Yorkshire Police received numerous requests for home safety visits following their talk on crime prevention.

Thank you to all for your contribution into making this event a success and thank you to all who visited.

Staying Well community event outcome March 30th

Posted on

On the 30th March, our Lower Valley Staying Well Workers linked with Healthy Minds and Focus 4 Hope to deliver an event in Brighouse, showcasing local community provision as well as developing a chance for community consultation.

Community stalls included the Memory Lane Cafe, Our Place, Turning Point, The Space at Fieldlane, Rastrick Big Local, Salvation Army and their craft group, Cromwell Bottom Nature Reserve, and a local Theatrical group.

Beside the stalls, a number of other people came to the event including the community champion from Morrisons in Elland, the Lower Valley Active Calderdale worker and the Lower Valley Better Living trainer.

The event took place from 11 – 2pm, with plenty of time for people to come in from the snow and have a lovely warming drink and a cake, take part in decorating heart shaped biscuits and painting rocks, talk to the many stall holders and discover how what is available in their area can enrich their lives.

Richard and Louise introduced the event in a fun, friendly way, and people relaxed and enjoyed themselves. A tasty sausage casserole and vegetarian chilli was provided by Focus 4 Hope, as well as fresh wood fired pizza from Alex at Crust and Crumb.

Once the food had time to settle, Marsha and David of Tai Chi Tigers got everyone moving.  The effect of gentle movement, tapping and breathing made everyone feel more relaxed and positively energised.

We have received positive feedback from the event with many participants saying they felt uplifted.
