Drawing on the life experiences of women from communities across Calderdale, special guests include Holly Lynch MP & Alison Lowe OBE West Yorkshire Deputy Mayor.
Crucially, we want to look at what we can do together to address some of the key factors that impact on health, opportunity, aspiration and social justice. The event will draw on the life experiences of women from diverse communities across Calderdale, using their voices to raise awareness of keys issues, and importantly, discuss ways in which lived experience can be used to inform and help shape policy and decision making at a local regional and national level.
We want to make sure that the voices of women and girls are included in regional and national discussions around health, poverty and social cohesion. We want to make our communities stronger. And by creating this safe space for visitors to learn and connect around tough local issues, we aim to provide a unique opportunities for people to get involved in helping to shape and influence change.
This event has been made possible thanks to support from West Yorkshire Mayor’s Safer Communities Fund, The National Lottery Community Fund and the Community Foundation for Calderdale.

NHP International Women’s Day 7th March #breakthebias
On Monday 7 March 2022, North Halifax Partnership celebrated International Women’s Day at Forest Cottage in Ovenden and what an amazing day we’ve had!
After two years of Covid restrictions, the NHP came back with this vibrant event, celebrating International Women’s Day.
In the main hall we had a brilliant choice of informative stalls from local services, not forgetting our very own Community Organisers. At the sports hall, we had a unique opportunity to try archery and boxercise with Positive Impact Sports.

We received inspiring words from the exceptional women among us and a lovely bit of lunch with a lovely slice of cake on the side.

Many thanks to Karen Scanlon, Natalie Ratner and Rachel Swaby for putting a brilliant day together!
Organiser, Karen Scanlon shared:
54 women from the North Halifax area came together to celebrate each other’s achievements. There was a marketplace, with various stalls, offering useful information and activities to help improve women’s lives.
Some of the organisations included Healthy Minds Calderdale, The Calderdale Women’s Centre, The Faye Knowles Chapman Foundation, Calderdale Sexual Exploitation Team, West Yorkshire Police, Bluebird Care, Staying Well, The North Halifax Community Organisers, Calderdale Breast Screening, Calderdale Recycling Team, Illingworth Messenger and Lifechanges Women’s Support Group.
There was also The Pottery Cafe who provided a relaxing painting session. For those who wanted something a bit more upbeat, Positive Impact Sports provided Boxing and Archery, alongside nutritious, healthy smoothies.
Inspirational speakers delivered heart-warming talks about what has empowered them on their personal life journeys. This was followed by an afternoon tea which was enjoyed by everyone as conversation filled the room.
Some of the feedback included:
“There was so much information available for us women.”
“The speeches were a highlight.”
“10/10 – Excellent Event.”
“Inspirational Women and a good networking opportunity.”
“It helped me reflect of how well I have done personally in my life.”
“Loved the Pottery, so relaxing.”
“I had a feeling of humbleness after meeting so many wonderful women I am glad to be a woman and proud of my achievements.”
Overall, the day was a huge success filled with positivity and inspiration. North Halifax Partnership would like to say a huge thank you to the Community Champions at Morrisons Illingworth for donating sanitary wear so we could promote period poverty in North Halifax. We would also like to say thank you to all those that attended and contributed towards making the event a success.
We hope you all enjoyed it.

Africaniwa: She Chose to Challenge March 26
This Friday 26th March at 6pm, in celebration of IWD2021, Africaniwa is proud to present: She Chose to Challenge, a Photo Exhibition.
Marking International Women’s Day, we are reminded that a challenged world is an alert world. And at a time where recent events call us to challenge masculine violence and empower women to #reclaimthestreets, we might have pondered, ‘what would it look like to have a world where women lived free from the patriarchy?’.
Over 30 years ago, one woman chose to make this a reality for the women who live in Umoja, a village where only women and children live. Meet Rebecca Lolosoli as we hear her story and mission in founding Umoja and what life is like living without men.
This month in celebration of IWD2021, Africaniwa is proud to present She Chose to Challenge, a Photo Exhibition.
Click on the link to register for your free ticket. You will receive the zoom link on the day of the exhibition:
https://www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/she-chose-to-challenge-tickets-146039916321
Africaniwa are raising funds to help Umoja village after their main source of revenue, tourism, has been hampered by the pandemic. This will be used to buy basic provisions like food, chalk for classrooms and toys such as footballs for the children. Every little helps so please spare whatever you can give at PayPal to esenetekyerema@gmail.com. Thank you.
