Square Chapel Arts Centre celebrating 250th anniversary on Saturday December 3rd
You are invited to join us in celebrating our 250th anniversary on Saturday 3rd of December at Square Chapel Arts Centre.
We will be showcasing the history of our fantastic site as well as the talents of our diverse community and of those who have a special connection with Square Chapel. An opportunity to network, or just enjoy the festivities with friends. Come help us commemorate the milestone of not only 250 years since the chapel was constructed but also 30 years since receiving arts centre status and 1 year since re-opening.
The event kicks off from midday and will include live music, historic talks, and free tasters from our new menu.

Live Music
12:00-19:45 Live Acoustic Music in the Atrium
Join us in our Atrium space from 12:00 for back-to-back acoustic performances from musicians that have featured previously in our weekly Friday Night Live showcase.

19:00-22:30 250 Years of Square Chapel Celebration Concert
Celebrating 250 years since the original building was constructed, 30 years since receiving Arts Centre status and one year since officially reopening to the public. Featuring local talents who have a special connection with Square Chapel making for an enjoyable, inclusive and accessible evening. We are also delighted to announce that Channel 4 will be with us to capture some of the performance for an upcoming documentary.

20:00-23:00 Live DJs in the Atrium
From 20:00 our celebration will culminate with back-to-back DJ sets, including an unmissable hour with Phoenix FM’s NRG X-Press host and Calderdale Pride icon Bazz/Dame Shirley Bazzey.

Historical Talks & Tours
12:30-13:00 David Glover – Tombstones: In Celebration of Square Chapel’s 250th Year: 1772-2022
A 30-minute stroll around the graveyard at Square Chapel with David Glover hearing stories of some named on the stones: the Bradley engineers, the Kershaws, the early Crossleys, the Glendinings, Thomas Rawlinson and the last Tristram.
This tour is weather permitting and will be replaced with an indoor presentation in Cornerstone if the weather is poor, this event is ticketed, please purchase your tickets here.
14:15-16:00 David Glover – An Illustrated Presentation to Celebrate the 250th Anniversary of Square Chapel
David Glover returns with a commemorative presentation in celebration of Square Chapel’s 250th year, spanning the era of Titus Knight all the way to the 21st Century expansion.

12:45-20:30 Free Food Samples in the Atrium
Samples of our new menu launching in 2023 will be served throughout the day in collaboration with Bam Bam’s Vegan Kitchen. Our Seven Bro7hers bar will be open all day as usual serving a range of real ales and keg beers, wines, spirits, hot and soft drinks.

Beaumont Bark! Local RSPCA hosts annual Bank Holiday Dog Show!
Local RSPCA back in Beaumont Park for Bank Holiday Dog Show!

The Bank Holiday Monday brings Beaumont Barks back to Beaumont Park Huddersfield. The annual event is hosted by RSPCA Halifax, Huddersfield, Bradford and District branch and Friends of Beaumont Park, with a 10 class fun dog show, stalls, live music and food.


The event, taking place on Monday 29th August, has fun for all the family with dog show classes including Posh Paws and Waggiest Tail, local trade stalls and live music in the bandstand. A perfect way to spend your Bank Holiday Monday! The activities start from 12pm – 4pm in the beautiful surroundings of Beaumont Park.
Lauren Moore, Fundraising Manager said “ We love working with the Friends of Beaumont Park to bring this fun family day out to Huddersfield! It’s a great way to spend your bank holiday, helping us raise vital funds for our Animal Centre whilst having fun with our local community and supporters!”

The RSPCA Halifax, Huddersfield, Bradford and District Branch are a self-funding branch of the National RSPCA, responsible for raising money locally to support our animal welfare work. Our main aim is to rehabilitate unwanted, abandoned and abused animals and find them loving, permanent homes. The local rehoming centre relies on public donations and the generosity of its local community to keep the doors of their animal centre open. The branch care for cats, dogs and small animals and have successfully rehomed 37 dogs, 81 cats and 27 small animals so far this year.

Focus Fest – Focus 4 Hope July 2nd
This Saturday July 2nd come to The Cock of the North in Hipperholme for Focus Fest, an evening of outdoor live music and entertainment to support Focus 4 Hope.
There will be live bands, DJ, BBQ & Pizza as well as stalls and games for all.
The event starts at 17:30.

Join this family friendly free event for a fun day out, full of many activities with something for everybody!
Take part in our fundraising races, the 2.5K fun run or the 10K Burner! These events have an entry fee starting from £6. Proceedings go to Bolton Brow PFA, one of the partner organisations producing the GGT.
A wide selection of food and drink will be on offer (including a barbeque, sandwiches, cakes, cream teas, coffee, cake and ice cream). Alternatively, bring your own picnic to the park – there’s plenty of grass!
The Great Get Together movement is inspired by the Jo Cox Foundation’s aim of bringing communities together. Our event is all about encouraging people to share and enjoy a relaxed day out in one of the loveliest parks in Calderdale.

The Sounds of Simon: Simon and Garfunkel tribute at Square Chapel June 18th
The Sounds of Simon, a brilliant touring tribute to the wonderful music of Simon and Garfunkel and Paul Simon are bringing their new show:
Old Friends: Together and Apart
to Square Chapel Arts Centre in Halifax on the 18th June
Exploring the duo’s music together as well as looking at them both as solo artists in their own right, the tour will perform all the classics from The Sound of Silence to Bridge Over Troubled Water, from You Can Call Me Al to Bright Eyes, all the hits are here.
The whole show is done in costume and the harmonies are spot on.

Flower and Music Festival at Halifax Minster for Platinum Jubilee
Halifax Minster will be blooming during the extended weekend celebrations, bringing to you a series of musical celebration events for the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee.
From Thursday the 2nd of June to Monday 6th of June there will be stunning floral art installations, flower arranging demonstrations and live music events, closing with the Jubilee Civic Service in celebration of the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee.
