Get involved with the Brighouse Yarn Explosion for Tour de Yorkshire

Posted on Updated on

brighouse-yarn-bombersOn Sunday 30 April 2017, the Tour de Yorkshire will be passing through Brighouse town centre.  We would like to decorate Brighouse to welcome the cyclists and visitors, but to do this we need your help.

Do you have spare wool that you could donate, can you knit, crochet or sew? You could help make yellow jersey bunting, flowers, pom poms, leaves, squares, strips which can then be sewn together to create features.  If you can make it we can use it!

The chosen charity of the Tour de Yorkshire this year is the Alzheimer’s Society,  Alzheimers Disease is the most common cause of Dementia.  The logo of the Society is the Forget-me-not, so we would like as many knitted/crocheted Forget-me-nots as possible to create a special feature.

As the Tour de Yorkshire takes place on the same weekend as the Brighouse Spring Market we hope to create a Yarn Trail to entertain visitors, young and old alike.

To find out more about how you can get involved drop into Wesley House at Central Methodist Church on Tuesday’s at 7pm, information can also be found at Baa Baa Brighouse in Rastrick, Pot Spot in Brighouse and Samuel Taylors at Kershaw’s Garden Centre, Halifax Road.

Donations can also be dropped off at any of those locations.

For further information email Brighouseincredibleyarnbombers@hotmail.co.uk or find the Brighouse Incredible Yarnbombers on Facebook

How can we make Calderdale more active? Have your say!

Posted on Updated on

We know activity plays a huge part to promote good physical and mental health and wellbeing in people of all ages.

Last year IBM worked with the Council to identify how to encourage more active, healthy and longer lives in the borough. Their recommendations included working with local organisations and people to create even more activities, and giving residents more information about how healthy they currently are to inspire them to make healthy choices.

On the back of that partnership, a new physical activity strategy, Active Calderdale, has been developed that sets out a range of measures to help us become the most active borough in the north of England by 2021.

Now we urgently need your input to make sure the strategy is right. Join us on the journey to a more active Calderdale by giving your thoughts and feedback by Sunday 5 March.

Read the strategy and complete the survey to have your say at calderdale.gov.uk/physical-activity-strategy-2017 and you can also join the conversation on social media using #ActiveCdale
