Poetry Competition at Rastrick Library

Now in its third year, this competition is open to anyone currently living in or attending school in Rastrick or Brighouse.

There are three age groups: under 11, 11 to 18, over 18, as at 1 September 2018.

You can enter a maximum of 2 poems. Poems can be on any subject, of any length and take any form.

There is no entry fee.

There will be three cash prizes per age group.

The judging panel comprises Benjamin Guilfoyle, performance poet, Susan Field, published poet and leader of a writing group, and Darren Martin, nephew of John Harrison.

You can get an entry forms from the library or you can email entries to friendsofrastricklibrary@hotmail.com. If emailing your entry, please include which age group you belong to.

Entries should be emailed or handed in at Rastrick Library by 1pm on Friday 15 February.

Prize winners will be asked to take part in the awards evening to be held at Rastrick Library on Wednesday 27 March, 7:00pm.

If anything is not clear, please ask staff at the Library.

Flat Stanley at Elland and Rastrick Libraries

Stanley Lambchop is just a normal healthy boy, but ever since a large notice board fell on him, he’s been only half an inch thick. But amazing things can happen to you when you are flat! Enjoy the magical and brilliantly funny adventures of Flat Stanley by Jeff Brown. You will make your own Flat Stanley and Airmail envelope.

This activity is suitable for children aged 5-8.

Tuesday 20 February, 10:30-11:30 at Elland Library.

Tuesday 20 February, 2pm-3pm at Rastrick Library.

Tickets are £3 per child and are available through Ticketsource.

All children must be accompanied by an adult at all times.

Creature Feature’s Children’s Workshop at Rastrick Library

Local artist and author of the children’s book Creature’s Features, Guy Farrow, holds a story telling and painting workshop.

FREE Fishing books for under 16’s

Brighouse Angling Association, are fortunate in having many generous members who have kindly donated a number of fishing books for the use of young people in the district.

YES it is a free gift, no catches, nothing to fill in and nothing to do but head to Brighouse, Rastrick or Bailiff Bridge Libraries and get your hands on one.

You are also encouraged to go along and try the great sport of fishing at Brookfoot Lakes Fishery, Brighouse.

Learn the ways of technology with Age UK’s Digital Inclusion IT Classes

Digital InclusionLearn your way around a computer with Digital Inclusion Information Technology classes every Wednesday at Pellon Network Centre from 10am to 12pm.

Or get one to one basic learning at the following Calderdale Libraries:

  • King Cross Library
  • Elland Library
  • Brighouse Library
  • Rastrick Library

Includes loan of IT equipment, tablets and laptops with WIFI and support from volunteers on assessment.
