Message from Sure Start Children’s Centres on Halloween Safety
As we are excited and getting ready for Halloween, Sure Start Children’s Centres would like to remind everyone from the young to the young at heart to be mindful and remain safe during this spooktacular time.
Do:
- Only trick or treat in your own neighbourhood unless you are with an adult
- Stay in well lit areas where there are plenty of houses
- Make sure an adult knows the area you plan to visit and what time you’ll be back
- Look out for ‘no callers please’ posters and respect your neighbours
- Keep to pavements and trick or treat on one side of the street before crossing safely to the other side – don’t criss-cross
- Wait to eat any treats until you get home so that an adult can check them
- Don’t cut through back alleys, ginnels or fields, and don’t trick or treat too far from home
- Don’t go alone – take an adult with you or stay in a group

Have you thought about a career in Early Years?
Every day is different, and you will be in the privileged position of helping young children develop and learn through play and care.
Key skills must include…
A warm smiley face that makes children feel safe and secure.
The ability to sing (in tune is not a necessity) but in front of a crowd is essential!
You must be patient and kind with the ability to accept a couple of interruptions during story time.
The preferred candidate must have a good sense of humour and a good imagination, if a child requests that you are a dinosaur, you will be the best roar-some dinosaur you can be!
Knowledge of aliens, superheroes and children’s characters would be advantageous.
You must feel comfortable telling everybody in the same room as you that you are going to the bathroom. You must also be prepared to leave the building feeling comfortable with unknown substances on your clothing.
And finally you must be prepared to distribute hugs when needed, ensuring children feel special and loved.
There is simply no other job quite like it
If this sounds like you, head over to our website to see our range of job vacancies
