Local Government Elections are coming up on Thursday 5 May 2022. If you are already registered to vote at your current address you don’t need to register again. Anyone who needs to register can do so quickly and easily online by visiting www.gov.uk/register-to-vote. Registering takes less time than it takes to make a cup of tea!

Everyone who is registered by 14 April will be sent a poll card to inform them of their polling station location, hours of the poll or whether they have a postal vote. Most polling stations have not moved but please check your poll card to make sure. New applications for postal votes, or cancellation of current postal voting arrangements, must be received by Electoral Services by 5pm on 19 April.

Further information about registering to vote and the ways you can cast your vote is available on the Council website.

Vote Weekend Care for the Galaxy Hot Chocolate Fund

Posted on

From 7 November 2016 until 26 February 2017, the Galaxy Hot Chocolate Fund seeks to award a total of seventy, £300 donations to help community groups and people across UK and Ireland.

Five donations will be awarded each week, four by a panel of judges and one through the People’s Choice award to the organisation with the most weekly votes.

What is Weekend Care?

Weekend Care is an organisation providing a safe stimulating space and wellbeing sessions on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays for people over 50. We help people with dementia, people who are lonely or isolated, people who need encouragement with social interaction and elderly who just need a little company at the weekend.

How will Weekend Care use the prize?

We will put the £300 towards our “wish list” project, This project is aimed at helping our guests do things they have never done, things they wish they had done when younger or things they would like to do before its too late.

For example one lady wants to swim with sharks, so we want to go to a Sealife Centre and go through the shark tunnel and one gent would like to go to Wimbledon, so we would like to hold a Wimbledon day, with tennis players and strawberries and cream. £300 from galaxy would make a lot of these wishes a reality.

You can register one vote per week for Weekend Care and voting closes on February 26th 2017
