Household support fund grants by December 2nd

Posted on

Are you a Not-for-profit organisation who are supporting people and families who are vulnerable and are facing hardship this Winter?

The Department for Work & Pensions (DWP) has provided councils with funds to offer direct support to households facing hardship this Winter.

These grants are for organisations who help people keep warm, clean, and fed this Winter.

The objective of the Household Support Fund is to provide support to vulnerable households in most need of support this winter as the economy recovers.

The fund should primarily offer food and energy support but also provision has been made to support households in need of other essentials e.g. blankets, toiletries, bills, fuel.

Grants are available on a sliding scale depending on how many people you are supporting and applications need to be in by 2nd December 2021.

For full details about this fund, application process and more winter support options, visit

We have contacted all families in Calderdale that are eligible, either by letter or email.  There is no application needed – funding will be awarded automatically once they have provided bank details.  All they need to do is follow the instructions in the letter/email and we will do the rest.

To date we have awarded almost £500k to over 4,500 families.

If you know anybody that has been contacted by us, please reassure them that this is legitimate and encourage them to take action.

Frequently Asked Questions and a link to the secure portal are now live on our website.

Have you thought about switching your energy provider, but not found the time to do it?

Ofgem and Calderdale Citizen’s Advice give really easy to follow support with Energy Best Deal and www.goenergyshopping.co.uk.

Come to one of our drop in sessions in March 2018 (see below for dates and venues), and we’ll help you find your options there and then, using an impartial tool.

You’ll  need to bring this information with you :

This information is on your bill and annual statement from your energy supplier – ring us if you’re not sure how to find it.

If you are on a pre-payment meter, you may not save as much by switching , but it may still be worth your while coming to the drop in.

Have you considered reviewing your energy supplier?

Posted on Updated on

As the temperature plummets and the initial cold weather starts to become a long term reality, it may be time to consider reviewing your energy supplier.

Citizens Advice Calderdale has an Energy Champion ready to support you with this process and want everyone in Calderdale to be on the cheapest energy tariff and to have a warm home and keep healthy this winter.

What can we do?
Citizens Advice will train all your volunteers and front line workers on how to use comparison websites and give them the tips of the trade to saving their clients money.

We also take referrals for clients who need us to help them get some cheaper options for their utilities. This can be done over the phone.
