Safeguarding Week 2016 – 17 to 23 October

Don’t forget next week is Safeguarding Week in Calderdale and there are lots of activities planned for this year, continuing to raise the awareness of the role we all play in protecting vulnerable children and adults.

The launch event is on Monday 17 October at the Woolshops, Halifax from 12.30pm.

Visit the safeguarding website for further information and don’t forget you can tweet a picture of yourself during the week holding the written message ‘safeguarding’s my business’ to show you support #SafeCdale16.

Dementia Awareness Week (15 -21 May)

Calderdale and Kirklees Alzheimer’s Society have a Dementia Roadshow Bus at Sowerby Bridge Market on Friday 13 May and more on the following dates’

  • Tuesday 17 May – Wellington Arcade, Brighouse – 12 to 1pm
  • Wednesday 18 May – Woolshops, Halifax – 11am to 1pm
  • Thursday 19 May – Todmorden Flea Market – 10am to 12pm
  • Friday 20 May – Hebden Bridge Town Hall – 10.30am to 12.30pm

During Dementia Awareness Week there will be events throughout Calderdale where you can ask any questions you have about Dementia and join in for a song if the mood takes you.

With memory trees at each event you are invited to write a message confronting dementia to hang on a tree.

Age UK Calderdale and Kirklees Holiday Fund – Grants available

Age UKAge UK have a limited fund to grant to older people to go on holiday who otherwise may not be able to afford it.

The fund, made available by the Community Foundation for Calderdale, is now open and grants must be used by the end of the year (2016).

The maximum grant is up to £500 / couple (£300 / individual) and is paid directly to the holiday company.

Priority will be given to applicants who are aged 60+, live in the HX postcode area, who are in financial hardship, have a long term illness or disability and have not used the fund previously.

The grants are available by submitting a simple application form to Age UK Calderdale and Kirklees.

Completed form should be returned to the Woolshops and decisions will be made within 4 weeks.

 

Halifax Art & Photography Festival 2016

The second Halifax Art and Photography Festival will see a variety of activity across Halifax Town Centre and will include plenty of FREE things to be involved in including:

  • Art, Sculpture and Photography Galleries
  • Art and Craft Workshops
  • Art and Photography Market
  • Live music
  • FREE Face Painting and Balloons

Arts and Photography Festival
